Where is man going
The role of men in society has changed significantly in recent decades and will continue to change with the increasing speed of societal change. Where this development will lead is open. Further emancipation of women and men? A return to traditional roles? Greater individualization and emphasis on “being human” instead of “being a man” or “being a woman”?
In the pictures, men are on the move – alone. Where do they come from? Where are they going? Why do they stop? Are they thinking? Waiting? Resting? Trying to escape the past? Looking for a way into the future? Considering a change of direction? What role do they currently play?
In this long-term project (started in 2017), I capture situations, fleeting moments, in which these questions have imposed themselves on me.
Just as life brings changes and always includes random encounters, the decision in what order the photographs are shown during a visit is dynamic. This is determined randomly.
