Four Elements
Iceland is often called the land of fire and ice. However, anyone who has been to Iceland knows that ‘wind’ is perhaps an even greater, almost daily companion. This realization led me to the conceptual representation of the country based on only four photographs, namely the representation using the classical elements of earth, water, air, and fire.
The strong, also geophysical, connection between fire and earth is captured here through the color representation of the two photographs. Similarly, the close relationship between air and water is clearly visible in the corresponding photographs. Fire and earth symbolize the powerful and often explosive nature of Iceland, while air and water reflect the constant movement and change of the landscape.
