Four Elements

Iceland is often called the land of fire and ice. However, anyone who has been to Iceland knows that ‘wind’ is perhaps an even greater, almost daily companion. This realization led me to the conceptual representation of the country based on only four photographs, namely the representation using the classical elements of earth, water, air, and fire.

Fire and earth embody the eruptive force and geophysical depth of Iceland. Air and water reflect the constant movement, the fleeting beauty, and the transformation of the landscape. Together, they tell the story of a land that lives, pulses, and is in perpetual change.
